Obituary for Sheila E. Bond

Sheila Elizabeth Bond was born on June 18, 1949 in Harlem, NY to Henrietta and Benjamin Wilson. She was called home to be with the Lord on January 10, 2024 at Southside Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. The middle child of 3 siblings, Sheila was an avid reader and a lover of education. She grew up in Jamaica, Queens, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She graduated from Long Island City High School and attended Queensborough Community College. Among many of her gifts, Sheila loved playing the cello. She was 1st cellist in her school orchestra. She was also a cheerleader in high school and participated in gymnastics while attending Queensborough Community College. She had a love for written word and, with her creative mind, enjoyed writing short stories and poetry. In 1992, while living in South Carolina, she went back to school and attended the University of South Carolina. Sheila was an exceptional cook and loved cooking and feeding anyone that she met.

Before Sheila left New York, she loved working at Saratoga Home for the Homeless in Queens NY, where she was employed as a member of the Security Team. She quickly excelled and became a union steward. Always the champion of others, Sheila was dedicated and responsible for many improvements for the residents of the home and employees during her employ.

In 2000, Sheila relocated to Petersburg, VA where she lived until her time of death.

Sheila was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to everyone she came in contact with. She had an unmovable faith and trust in God, that no matter what she was going through, never wavered. No matter the situation or the circumstances, God was always her foundation. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 27:14 - Wait on the Lord. Her greatest joy in life was seeing the children that she raised become loving and respectable people with all the core values and principles she instilled.

Sheila was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Wilson; sister, Cynthia Harvey; many aunts and uncles and her grandparents.

She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her daughters, Sherridan Lester (Dinwiddie, VA), Twana Bond-Jones (Blair, NE), Donna VanBrackle (Warner Robins, GA), April Harvey (Stone Mountain, GA); son Kenneth Wilson (Bronx, NY); mother Henrietta Wilson (Dinwiddie, VA); brother Benjamin Wilson Jr. and sister-in-law Jennifer (Petersburg, VA); grandchildren Isiah (Ruth) VanBrackle, Kayla (DeRon) Shepherd, and Cori Lester; great granddaughter Royel Shepherd; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.
